Printer Choices
Hey guys. I'm going into first year engineering, and starting to look at printers. All I really need to know is whether or not I really need a colour printer. I'm working at a Staples right now, and I know we'll probably have some good black and white laser printers coming up on sale in the next little while, so I'd love to get one of those (huge per page savings over inkjet) but if I have to do colour then they start getting more expensive.

Anyone in engineering have any input about whether or not I need a colour machine? Thanks!

I'm not in engineering, I'm in Science, so I've taken about half the courses that you will be taking, and my best friend is in engineering. How much you print really depends on your style. Some people prefer to take their own notes, while other print off lecture notes that the profs post. Some people also just read them directly off the computer.

I do know that you will end up printing a lot of practice tests, and assignment however. But I can not think of any reason why you would need to print in color. I have an inkjet printer and I ran out of ink pretty fast, so if you can get a laser printer cheap, I would 100% go for it. Never had I have required to print something in color.

Go for the B & W laser. You can always print stuff in colour at the Underground if necessary.

Even if you make graphs, you can use different style lines and symbols instead of colours. You can also use different shades of grey, but I think symbols and different lines are better.

I thought only engineers were allowed to take engineering courses :s

Math 1A03, Math 1AA3, Math 1B03 = Math 1Z04, Math 1ZZ5 (or whatever the code is)
Chem 1A03 = Chem 1A03
Physics 1B03= Physics 1D03
Physics 1BB3= Physics 1E03
Math 2X03, 2XX3= Math 2N03, 2NN3

All are the same courses with a different slant

You get the idea

I don't know how similar Physics 1B03 and 1D03 are :/

1B03 is mechanics and waves while 1D03 is only mechanics.

I'm not exactly sure how similar they are, the subjects may be taguht in a different pattern, but I imagine that a full year of first year physics in the eng and science faculties are pretty similar.

Hey, when my colour ink ran out, I printed in grey and coloured it in with pencil crayons if needed. It's ghetto, but it works, especially for things like graphs.

I have a printer that's a copier as well as a scanner... it does very much come in handy at times, but it's not necessary. The only big things you're printing out are assignments and those are usually in black and white.

Do you guys have any specific brand you're tried that's preferable?. And is it really worth getting a printer in Rez?
