Psych 1X03 and 1XX3
These two are the mandatory courses for previous first year. Now I really need to find out whether these two courses are considered science courses or social sciences courses at McMaster?

At McMaster they are under the Faculty of Science. When you go to the psychology website, the website shows science.mcmaster.ca http://www.science.mcmaster. ca/psychology/

1XX3 isn't mandatory for first year, unless they've recently changed it.

1X03 isn't even mandatory. They say it is for life sci, but you don't actually need it for first year unless you want to go into somethign that requires psych.

I loved PSYCH 1XX3 though. It was worth the stupidity that is PSYCH 1X03. I would definitely recommend braving it. It was a nice mark booster and very interesting

It says under the description of PSYCH 1XX3 that Biology 4U is highly recommended. Has anyone taken this course without having taken 4U Bio and or 4U math. I want to major in Social Psychology so one of the prerequisites is PSYCH 1XX3. Any help is appreciated! Thanks

I emailed Joe Kim (the instructor for these courses) and he said that both Psych courses count as Science and as Social Science courses.
Also there are 4U equivalents to both calc and bio.

Did you email the science academic advisors? Maybe try emailing the soc sci ones, since they'll know better that the science people what the rules are in their faculty.
Why is it so important that you find out if McMaster considers them science or soc sci or both?

Probably because some majors require you to do a certain number of credits from science, social science etc.

I've never seen Mac do that (doesn't mean no program has it, just that I've never seen one that does). They usually have lists, and you need to take a certain number of courses from each list. That's why I asked.

Psych 1XX3 is very biology-anatomy based so it was a lot of memory work. Knowing the basic concepts would probably help but a lot of people managed fine without Bio 4U as far as I know. You just have to keep up with the work.

Bio 4U or an equivalent/higher level bio is required, not recommended, for psych 1XX3.
Quote:
Prerequisite(s): PSYCH 1X03 and one of Grade 12 Biology U or credit or registration in one of BIOLOGY 1A03, 1M03, 1P03; or PSYCH 1X03 and registration in a Nursing program {Program codes: 6390 or 6386}
|
Psych 1XX3 is not required for social psychology.
