im living off campus so there's no need to buy meal plans, but sometimes i just want to grab a cup of coffee and small things like that. how do i suppose to put money in my student card? say 50?

You'll have to get the off campus meal plan. The minimum amount you have to put in the Freedom plan is $100 and you get 5% off on most food purchases on campus. The plan does not expire and your money is refundable if you wish to cancel it later.

Also, you will have to go the mac express centre in commons building to get and submit your application.

I have an off-campus meal plan... it's quite simple after you get your account started up. After it's set up, you can add funds online by credit card =)
