Queen's or Mac for engineering?
Obviously I'm expecting biased opinions. But are there any engineers that could point out some pros and cons of Mac. I liked both campuses equally

Pros:

1) Campus - small and beautiful campus.
2) Macinsiders - has been really helpful to me.
3) Co-op program - to some extent. 16 month coops are extremely easy to get. We can't go for 16 month co-ops after second year, like you can in Ryerson. Why this inflexibility? I don't know. Reputed companies have started to hire from Mac over the years.
4) Toronto Downtown and Niagara are only an hour's drive.

Cons:

1) Inflexible engineering program - If you failed an engineering course, you can't take it at Mac in summer. You either have to take it elsewhere and transfer credits or take it in the following fall/winter sessions.
2) Terrible and overpriced campus food.
3) Hamilton sucks. The transit system sucks too.
4) Course registration system is the worst. I'd have everyone agree with me on this one.

Every University would have its pros and cons. You'd have to decide what matters to you. For example, if you wanted to major in Geological or Mining Engineering, you can't do that at Mac. And if you wanted to major in Mechatronics or Electrical and Biomedical Engineering, you couldn't do that at Queen's. Whatever choice you make, don't regret it later because either way you'll find things that you don't like. Make a decision and stick by it till the end.

lol Hamilton is not THAT bad. Get a bunch of friends and explore. It might not be as happening as Toronto, but it deffo has its own charm. I actually feel more at home in Hamilton now than TO :-/

And about course selection, it doesn't really matter when you register. No class is gonna be full, no one else takes engineering courses "just for fun". Unless you want to get a specific lab/tutorial time slot, just choose your courses by the allowed time. In upper years there's only one section mostly, so less to worry.

Anyway, if you know which engineering stream you want to get into, Queen's is a better choice. If you want to explore options then Mac.
And yeah in upper years, very limited core courses are offered during summer.

The biggest pro to me was that first year was general engineering meaning if you don't know what stream you like this is a great opportunity. Con of that is it can be competitive to get in

i think queen has the same set up with gen 1st year.

Queens doesn't offer co-op through. I think its just 4 years of study, at least thats what they told me when I last attended the uni. fair.

Also it depends on which program u wanna get in to. Most engineering programs at mac are pretty well reputed, however i was told by my friends and ppl on MI that Software eng and Eng Phys aren't that great. As well as the co-op program isn't as good as Waterloo's.

I dont regret coming to Mac!

Also consider the location. Kingston is really really far. Hamilton may be closer to your own home.

Similarities:
Beautiful campuses
General first year engineering
Accredited engineering programs

Awesome things about Mac Eng:
Everyone is super friendly and willing to answer all your questions
Unique program add-ons like Society and Management
Co-op program with excellent opportunities for internships
Student housing (for upper years) is cheap compared to other major cities and very close to campus

First of all, which engineering stream are you interested in? This is key.
