Danielle, make sure that any torrent you choose to download is one with a high number of "seeders" and a lower number of "leeches." If you ensure the ratio of seeders to leeches favours the seeders, you'll be choosing a torrent that has more people hosting/uploading than downloading.
Also, be sure to check a torrent's "health," which is generally marked by a status bar or percentage. The health of a torrent generally relates to the condition or age of the torrent, upload speeds, number of successful downloads, and so forth.

for my occasional hip-hop fix, i listen to a guy who calls himself Girl Talk. His album Night Ripper is like a whole bunch of beats and popular songs meshed together, good car and dance music.

I don';t listen to Flo. No offense to Canadian artists but I'm not a huge fan of our hiphop scene.
I really like CunninLynguists, Wu Tang, NWA, MF Doom, MF Grimm, Cannibal OX, Aesop Rock, Sage Francis, J Live, Jeru Tha Damaga, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Blackalicious is a huuuuge one, Nas but only in the days of Illmatic... he was sick then, Atmosphere, Felt, Murs, the Streets, Biiiiiiggie, KMD... it's too late to think of more right now... i'll think of some later!

Anything by Sage Francis is brilliant. He is a white rapper on the indie label anticon (which also showcases many other underground rap artists). Check him out especially if you like politically conscious/intelligent raps. Secondly Notorious B.I.G is a must, and I'm surprised he isn't already on your list. Eric B & Rakim's Paid In Full is also an essential to any hip hop lovers collection. Del Tha Funkee Homosapien is another rap artist I enjoy listening to, so I will recommend him as well. There are plenty more, but I'll give you time to digest these artists for now.

I didn't read this post before I posted, and I back the vast majority of these artists.

If you're looking for some rap, try "I Want You" by Common

Alright, last Tuesday evening (May 6th) the kids at MSU market were playing this really cool sondtracks. The guy told me the name of the band but for the love of god, I can't remember it. It starts with the letter 'B' and it has this almost urban/funky/afro-carribean flavour to it. I am not sure what category it would fall into.
Any ideas, anyone?

Lupe Fiasco' s "The Cool" is my favourite album currently. There isn't just one or two good songs on it, all the songs on the album are good (with the exception of maybe one that is a bit weak). You should definately check him out.
Common and Talib Kweli are also good. Mos Def has some good old songs. To tell you the truth most of the good rap and hip hop has already been done. You can find some good new songs but most of them are just good for clubbing.
Check out Busta Rhymes Feat. Linkin Park - We Made It which is fairly new and it has a nice blend.
