Re:Brand Hamilton
There is an opportunity to be part of a youth-centred community art project called Re:Brand Hamilton. Participants will get to tour and collectively work on a tourism map of Hamilton that youth later in the program can build on.
OPIRG McMaster and Centre3 for Print and Media Arts invite McMaster University students to participate in the art-based research project Re: Brand Hamilton. We are looking for 8 students (up to 24 years of age) from different departments/programs, who can commit to take part in 4 workshops on Saturday afternoons, starting March 23rd, 2013.
For the research phase of the project, participants will visit civic museums and landmarks, in addition to locations that they identify as significant to their personal heritage and to the collective history of the larger community. Photographs, prints, drawings, text, video, sound, and other workshop results will contribute to a tool kit for 3 more youth research teams, as well as to the creation of screen-printed and other promotional materials in the production/distribution phase.
Through an iterative process of participatory research and production workshops, a total of 40 youth from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds will create maps; tour guides, t-shirts, bags and other promotional materials that will help attract and connect young people to Hamilton’s sites. If you are interested, please send a brief statement of interest that includes the following
• Department/program/field of studies
• Neighbourhood or residence area
• Date and place of birth
• Gender
• Favourite attraction in Hamilton
• Favourite spot in Hamilton, which is NOT on the tourism Hamilton map, but is significant to you, your family or your community
All responses will be treated as confidential. You may respond by e-mail to
Sarah ([email protected]) or visit the OPIRG office, MUSC 229 (open 10-4:30 pm, Monday through Friday) to speak with Shelley and express your interest in person. For more information e-mail [email protected] .com
