Reapplying for Social Work (BSW)
I have applied for the second year social work program. however, if i dont get in this year and reapply next year, will I be wasting one entire year of courses? all the required courses for the social work program(first year in the BSW program) are listed online, and some of them are open courses. suppose out of the 6 courses that i am required to take in the social work program, if 4 are open and i take them as part of any other program, will they count towards the completion of my BSW if i reapply for the program again in second year?

Yep, they would count. You'll technically be shadowing the program next year and taking as many of the required courses as you possibly can.

There are actually not really any classes you can take without being enrolled in the social work program. Yeah it may seem like quite a few including 3C03, 3H03, 3003, 2B03, 4C03, 4J03, 4U03, 4W03, 4Y03 HOWEVER you MUST be in 3rd year, and from your posting I am assuming you are going into second.
This would mean you are actually not eligible to take any of them. As well, 4003 and 4X03 state that you can get permission from the instructor to take them however you still have to be enrolled in the social work program and have to of taken 3DD6 and 3D06.

So again, there are not any classes you can really take without being in the social work program.
With that being said I do have one suggestion.
I did not get in during first year. Seeing how it is a combined BA/BSW I Instead thought long and hard about what I wanted my BA component to be for when I DO get in. I also made sure that should i NEVER get in that the classes I am taking for the BA component are eligible to qualify for a Honors BA that I could always do as a back up.

Then what I did was took ALL the classes that are required for that BA part of the BSW. In my case that was health and aging. So i only took health and aging classes (no electives!)

This means that even though i didnt get in, should i get in for 3rd year I would be behind on my social work classes but ahead on my health and aging BA classes. And could then catch up in third year by only taking social work classes.

Not sure if this is making any sense?

Now, I did get in for third year, and I am not any different than those who got in during second year. Only difference is that I have to do my placement during the summer to get back on track.

If you have any other questions, or if im not making much sense message me and ill try to explain it a little better.

as mentioned before, the open social work courses formally require non-BSW students to be at least in their third year. However, you could also ask the professor to waive that requirement and they might do so for open courses that have low-enrollment.
