Regarding picking 2nd year majors
So when exactly do we get to decide picking our majors for second year?
I think its around march but it would be great to get a confirmation of the date.
I know they do look at our second semester marks at the end
but do they start considering first semester marks once
ppl start applying or wait for our second before deciding?

One more question: for chem when it says an average of 7.0 does it mean for both together or u need at least a 7 in chem 1a03 and a 7 in chem 1aa3?

Yeah, around March, you will be able to apply. You'll get an email from your faculty as the date gets closer. Once they've looked at your second term marks, they will start accepting people.

As for your second question, it's the average of both together.

Good luck, and happy holidays!

For the second question it depends on the exact wording in the degree requirements.

For certain majors your need an X overall average but you need a 7.0 average in both X course and Y course that pertain to your major.

Stuff like that. Depending on the wording you may need a 7.0 in each course.

To me it means your 1A03 and 1AA3 mark should average to at least 7.0. I don't think they would have put the word "average" if they meant to say in each course.

Yeah, that sounds like pretty ambiguous wording to me though. If you want to be absolutely sure I'd contact someone from your faculty to be clear.

It does lean more toward a combined average but it doesn't seem clear enough to me and you want to be sure.

what about when it says you need X amount of credits with Y overall GPA by the end of Year one. Can I shadow programs and enter at any time really?

You can shadow if you don't get into the major you want after 1st year but its not a guarantee that you will ever be accepted into that major, even if you shadow. It would probably be best to talk an academic advisory about your options if you are unable to get into the major you want originally.

If after the second year for example you have the required credits and GPA average, you can enter that program. Just remember to do as many required credits as you can when you're shadowing so that you aren't losing time.

That's not what I meant. I didn't know your specific situation, I just meant for example if you shadowed and didn't get the requirements you might want to have alternative options.

I can't see any reason why they would deny entry unless its a program with a limited number of spaces. If the program isn't competitive I'm sure if you meet the requirements after 2nd year you will be admitted.

Even so if you're not sure about your academic future it couldn't hurt to discuss things with an academic advisor.
