I totally disagree. marks do not show employers what you're capable of. If someone takes bird courses and does well, then goes out into the work force, they aren't really equipped to succeed. They'll face a difficult problem and not know how to deal with it. The reverse is also true.

People are made up of more than just grades..that's why there are essays and interviews and all for jobs and professional schools.

I'm pretty sure he meant grades in certain courses. If you get great marks in a course with a certain topic, then that can tell a lot about the ability of the student in that specific course.

For example: If you get a high mark in a lab course (such as bio 2L03) then that tells people that you are good at doing whatever techniques and procedures for that lab.

yeah, i agree with you. I guess I interpreted this thread wrong. It seems to me he's trying correlate great improvement with improved grades, but I just think there are other factors.

- How I did four years ago is not real me.
- One year Mohawk college made me realize I was more of hand-on learner. I want to better myself and university education is most important to have to realize that goal. And I realized biotechnology program is very ideal program. I do not believe that theory-intense programs would not be great fit for me.
- I don’t have any extenuating circumstance that hindered my study opportunity. I just did not have responsibility to handle it. I didn’t have appealing career goal therefore I didn’t have motive to do enough work. Now I am responsible student evidenced by terrific first year at Mohawk college. I chose biotechnology at Mohawk because I thought it will help me ease transition to biotechnology at McMaster University. As I became responsible, I started to research into program I was interested at mac, what I needed to do to get back to Mac and minimum requirements for consideration. (Mac asked that I study at least one year at College of Applied Arts and Technology with at least B average) I have worked to satisfy all the minimum requirements. Well-planned systematic approach has helped me achieve so many things in 2009-2010. I also consistently volunteered. I made sure I managed time well to stay on top of studies.
- I have satisfied prerequisite to have at least 75% in the six 12U course of the OSSD. (79%)
- I can prove that I am capable of the university education if you give me a green light. I got 85 gpa first year at College of Applied Arts and Technology (minimum requirement for reinstatement). It should explain that my character has upgraded.
- Strategies to have successful year:

1) Time management. I will try to study in one place for long time. I will take advantage of travelling time to listen to lecture on podcast.
2) Focus - I am fully goal-oriented now and will be sure to prioritize things and get it done.
3) Motivated - I enjoy learning. Especially something relevant to biotechnology stream. I get motivated just to see colorful and vivid diagram on the textbook.

These are just points I wrote down that will become ideas for my reinstatement letter. please let me know if you have comments. Thank you.

I think those are some good points. I'm going to assume though that English is not your first language, because some of your grammar is a little strange.

Make sure you have someone edit it before you send it off :p.

No offence or anything, but I would get someone who has English as their first language to edit that. There are a lot of minor wording mistakes.

The content is good, and I think you have the best chance that I have seen to date of being reinstated. I just don't know how much emphasis they place on proper English/grammar.

Naw, there was someone on here last year that managed to actually get reinstated (look here). That's the best reinstatement letter I've seen :p.

Great letter. I just don't have extenuating circumstances like the guy who wrote the letter. (he was reinstated, right?) I have to fight through without any extenuating circumstance. I was just the guy who screwed up with everything handed to me. I just need to write great convincing letter that will make my last year's achievement to shine. Thanks for encouraging words. I would really like to take all of the contributors of the threads to dinner if I get in. I really appreciate consistent replies from all of you.

so i heard all 33 engineering students who failed were allowed to reinstate b.tech without taking courses out of elsewhere. (25 of the 33 made it two level 2) what if the poor online university transcript (taken before mohawk. I did very well at mohawk) bites me in the ass in the consideration?

Well, I think clear signs of improvement are what they look for. So I don't see why you wouldn't be reinstated.

I think so too. You CLEARLY improved a lot, I commend you for that actually, because your improvement is impressive. I don't see why you wont get in if students that just failed or partied away got back in. Good luck!
