Renovations to the Arts Quad

If any of you have ever walked across the Arts Quad, you will know that it is in dire need of repair. The tiles are loose, some are incredibly uneven, and it even causes leaks in the basements of some of the buildings. The good thing is that as of May 5th rennovations will commence.

The bad thing is the rennovations are supposed to take place until mid-August. If the school's timing is like anything else being built on campus, expect some sort of a delay. I would realistically say after Welcome Week...or maybe even Halloween, to be safe.

Another issue is that means you now must walk around the Arts Quad area if you want to go from one building to the other. Although this helps the waistline, it is not helpful when you are late. This means there will be no access to the DeGroote School of Buisness, Kenneth Taylor Hall (KTH), Togo Salmon Hall (TSH), Chester New Hall (CNH) and the Student Centre (MUSC).

I'd also like to mention that this was part of the "Worth Mentioning" section of the Daily News, instead of the main page. And, as of when the article was posted at 13:00hr on May 1st 'Salmon' was spelled 'Salmom'.

There is nothing more exhilarating than pointing out the shortcomings of others, is there? (to quote a line from the movie Clerks).

ADDED BY CHAD FULLERTON:

Just cause the arts quad is under construction doesn't mean you can't access the buildings via the basement/underground routes (excluding CNH). Its how I go to all the buildings anyways since i'm lazy and want to stay inside when its cold out (plus I enjoy the smell of Quarters. Ok... maybe not... but ya)

If you're walking out of Union Market and down the stairs there to the basement you can go straight to the end of the hallway (where the Humanities Society Office is) and then

a) CNH Main Doors: Turn right, go to the end of the hallway, through the door as if you're going to The Tank, but instead of going there go up the stairs and exit, turn left, then you're outside. Turn left again, and you'll be brought to the stairs that are the entrance of CNH

OR

Turn left and go down this hallway, left again, straight, then turn right. You'll reach a coffee shop/eating area, go out the exit (there's stairs that go up) and you'll be brought outside to an area that will let you walk around to CNH

b) TSH Lobby Turn right, then on your left is a door that leads to stairs. Go up those stairs and you'll be in TSH.

c) KTH Lobby Turn right, go straight to the end of the hall (to where the tank is), turn right again, go straight to the end where there's poster boards an elevators. You'll see two double doors which lead to a stair case that will bring you right into the lobbby of KTH.

d) Degroote Lobby Turn right, go straight to the end of the hall (to where the tank is), turn right, at the four-way (the hall splits to four directions) turn left, then turn right at the end of that hall, you'll pass the KTH Computer Labs, turn LEFT at the next four-way and you'll see a door with a sign saying "To Mail Room and Degroote". Go through that door and you'll see elevators. You're now in the Degroote Basement. This is the main elevator in Degroote... so you can take it to any floor in degroote, or to Floor 1 if you want the Degroote Lobby. You can also go around the corner to take the stairs.

It may sound complicated, but this routes are pretty easy once you do them a few times :-)

Renovation of Arts Quad

Posted on May 01, 2008 at 01:00 PM.

Phase 3 of the Arts Quad renovation begins on Monday, May 5. The affected area will be closed to all pedestrian and other traffic from May 5 until mid-August.
There will be no access from Chester New Hall, Togo Salmom Hall and The Student Centre across the Arts Quad to Kenneth Taylor Hall and the DeGroote School of Business. Please use other routes to access the buildings on the Arts Quad.
We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your co-operation.

Paid professional is not the same as someone with a PhD...

But yes, we are paying money to maybe be of the same status (phD) one day.
