I'm looking to rent a house for next yearwith some of my friends, but everywhere we go, the landlord wants a 12 month lease agreement, which none of us are willing to do. Is it even possible to get a house with a 8 month lease?

8 month leases are rare, most places will be 12 months.

It's most common to have landlords ask you to sign a 12 month lease agreement, although there are some 8 month leases out there (much less common) especially in January where everyone is searching for a house. In the summer months you may find more 8 month leases available.


If you are looking to sign a lease now, you could always ask the landlord to reduce your rent throughout the summer months, or see if he/she would allow subletting, where you would re-rent your house out over the summer months.
