It's a matter of priorities, to be honest. If someone is
not willing to prioritize school because they feel the need to party and so on, then they are dumb. No question. However, if someone
cannot prioritize school due to certain situations that cannot allow it, then of course they aren't dumb. Getting good grades is simply time and effort. There was a time, many years ago, where I thought grades justified higher intelligence, but it doesn't. It has to do with motivation and the drive to succeed -- and this certainly correlates well with spending more time on your studies. The more your life is kept occupied by other activities, the harder it is to squeeze that study time in and the higher chance you may not really strive for the highest possible grade.
P.S - I don't even know what honours commerce cutoff is. It really shouldn't be too hard to get though
