Scholarships?
Hi guys,

For scholarships, I was wondering if we were supposed to get them in second year. Because for first year, if we had a certain average in high school, we received a scholarship. For example, if we had an 80% - 90% average, we received $750.00. I was wondering if there were scholarships available for second and third year and also if there were scholarships based on the GPA you achieved.

Thanks

Yes there are, but you need a much higher average to get money - they tend to be for the top x % of each class and there are also some for getting the highest mark in certain courses. The course calendar and the SFAS website have a full list with all requirements (it's pretty lengthy).

Do you know if there is a list of the requirements for the scholarships? Because I checked the SFAS website and I wasn't able to find anything

You can't have looked very hard then Just a quick google search brings them up.

This page has the requirements for the general ones based on average and what the faculty breakdown is (it's for last year because the awards given at the beginning of this year are based on last year's averages).

That page also links to the course calendar, which has more details here. You'll have to do some exploring to find the ones that apply to you.

You can get scholarships based on academic achievement in later years as mentioned by the other posters, but they're usually a lot more competitive and less guaranteed because of that fact.

Your entrance scholarships do not renew themselves, unfortunately.

There are also scholarships tied to social factors (background, being a first generation university student, disability, etc). These also rely on academic achievement, but can be somewhat less competitive due to smaller eligibility pools. There are also bursaries available for those with financial need.
