Part 1: Money Saving Tips!
By Chad Fullerton

*Updated for 2009/2010*

Since most of our more recent articles have been packed full of important information I decided to lighten things up a bit and give you some not-as-important tid bits of info for all the new students coming to Mac in September. It's a series that will basically have some tips and "secrets" that you learn while being at McMaster... but being on MacInsiders, its obvious you've come here to get the insider edge before arrive at Mac, so I'll let you in on some things you could find useful.

Chocolate Milk for $1.25
This is one of the biggest deals you'll find on campus and its quite a yummy one! While every food location on campus will try selling you a carton of chocolate milk for $1.75 or more, you can get the same great daily source of calcium for only $1.25 (INCLUDING TAXES) from the Union Market located in the Student Centre (MUSC). Note: The Union Market is run by the MSU and does not accept student cards (meal plans), you need to pay cash, credit, or debit!

2 Cans of Pop for $1.27
Another great deal at the Union Market if you're walking through MUSC with a friend is to get two cans of pop (Coke, etc) for $1.27. Split that between you and a friend and voila... a $0.64 pop!

Cheap photocopies
Sure, there's The Underground located in the basement of MUSC, which is of course convenient and run by the MSU. However, if you're looking for even cheaper copies, be sure to check out Copy Dog located just down the street from the McMaster campus (1120 Main St West, Hamilton). They are a great place to get colour copies ($39/sheet!) and they are fantastic when you need to print out an essay/paper and get it bound with a plastic cover for cheap! I'll warn you now though... their store usually has a real dog in behind the counter! But don't worry, the owners are super nice, and it's a family-run business.

1 Can of Pop for $0.75
Somewhere located on campus is a $.75 pop machine. I'll keep this one a surprise and let you go hunting for it when you arrive at Mac!

Cheap Breakfast
Union Market has a bagel + cream cheese deal for only $1.20, or only $0.90 for a plain bagel! Plus they have some great fruits like apples and bananas for cheap prices.

Thats all for now, be sure to check back for more later

Yup! But but I use my visa only for school things (textbooks, supplies), or food. And food-food, not junk food.

I'm an only child. Spoiled brat. What can I say?

*note* I am really not a jerk.

Additionally, as a student who does not often carry cash, and in the past was not on campus for long periods of time, being able to use a credit card/debit was SUCH A BONUS in comparison to always needing to take out money if I was in need of a snack and didn't have cash. (which meant lots of bank fees and loss of funds which is not nice).

Chad, you punk, if the first years take to drinking the Cherry Vanilla Coke and it runs out even quicker than it already does now, I am going to come looking for you!

When you find the machine, you will also find me sitting in that room, consider it an added bonus.

Hi Amara, yes the Union Market is located in the Student Centre at the end of the row of stores.

As for Rolo Drinks, this is the first time I've even heard of such a drink! Good ol' Google gave me this page. It sure looks yummy! I haven't seen it around though.

I believe they sell the Hershey milkshakes, but I'm not sure about the Rolo.

I can check tomorrow when I'm on campus and report back?
