I'm just curious if there's anyone who had above an 11.1 GPA in Science who did not receive the Senate Scholarship? It lists that 11.1 was the cut off this year, but I did not appeared to have received it.
Thanks in advance.

Cut-off does not necessarily mean everyone who is above the cut-off will receive the scholarship. They have a limited number of scholarships so perhaps there were more people with a higher GPA than you. That being said, 11.1 is a really high cut-off already so I would think most people eligible for it should get the scholarship unless your GPA was right on 11.1 or something. I'm sorry you didn't receive the scholarship though! Perhaps, if there are any leftover ones later, you can be rewarded one in Janurary.
Also, I'm not sure about last year's cut-off but I received the Senate Scholarship last year with an 11.2 GPA (I'm in Science as well).

Last year's cutoff was an 11.0, and a 10.9 the year previous that one. These cutoffs keep going up! Either people are getting higher averages every year, or there is less money to be handed out. Anyways, congratulations to those who have received it and good luck to everyone else!

More people are in the faculty every year but there aren't more scholarships given out, therefore you have to be in a higher percentile to get the scholarship.

That's interesting. Mine's 11.2, but if not everyone above the cut off gets it, then oh well. Thanks for the replies everyone!

Joanne, are you doing co-op by any chance?
This came in an email to people who received the senate scholarship:
Co-op / Internship: If you are going to be on internship or co-op in the 2012/13 academic year, your scholarship(s) will automatically be deferred until you return to study at McMaster for the 2013/14 academic year.

I currently am enrolled in co-op; however, the chembio co-op begins 2nd term of the 2012/2013 academic year. I have been awarded other scholarships as well despite being in co-op and some friends of mine in co-op have received the Senate Scholarship.

If he got it it's most likely a mistake that you didn't. I think you misunderstand that they don't randomly give the scholarships to anyone who's above the cut-off. It's more like a top-down effect, where they give the scholarships to the people at the high end of the range and continue giving them away to people with successively lower GPAs until they run out of money. So I wouldn't worry too much about it, you're bound to get it eventually if people with 11.1 got it.
