SERIOUS QUESTION: Rabies infection in Hamilton
So they've found new cases of Rabies in Hamilton.
http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2016...-in-total.html
And around new year my roommate was bitten by a black cat named "Mr.Charlie". After reading the news, I'm a bit concerned if the cat was affected by rabies or not. Are pets in Canada required to have the rabies vaccination? Does anyone know the owner of the cat? Is the vaccination covered by Ohip or do we have to pay for it?
Thanks.

Why don't you call a walk-in clinic and ask?

We're going tomorrow. But wanted to get some details before we did. He doesn't has the bite mark visible so I thought if we got hold of the owner of the cat and confirmed if the cat has had vaccinations, it might save up the trip.

Back in my days, people used to look at a medical encyclopedia for answers, instead of asking random strangers on the street or the internet.

You can look up (read: google) which vaccines are covered by OHIP. I don't think the rabies vaccine is, but I haven't looked it up myself.

You know the cat's name but not the owner/contact info?

You can also google if rabies vaccines are "required" for pets in Hamilton, as well as consider logically if any laws or bylaws regarding this could be enforced in a way you are willing to stake your life on.

The chances of finding someone on here who knows the cat's owner are pretty low, and that's really the only information you could get here that you couldn't get yourself through google.

Guys, I'm just asking if anyone here has a cat named "Mr.Charlie". It doesn't belong to anyone in our house. My housemate got bitten when the cat came wandering to out house at night so just wanted to see if we can track the owner.

There was black cat lost a while back I saw flyers on bus stop shelter, like months ago.

As for your shot, I got scratched badly by my cat ones, they gave me full set of rabies shots. It doesn't matter whether the cat is domesticated or not, it's a precaution.
