Shave for a Cure
Hi,

My name is William Chan and I am this year's VP External for the Smiling Over Sickness Club. Our mandate involves directing student volunteerism and energy in a way that contributes positively to the lives of sick children. I am e-mailing with regards to our annual Shave for a Cure event that is traditionally held during half-time of the first Marauders home playoff game. As you might know already, Shave for a Cure is a fundraising event where brave volunteers willingly have their heads shaved to raise money to support the paediatric division of the Canadian Cancer Society. We have tentatively set the date for the event to happen next Saturday, October 27th. We will not know for sure unless the Marauders beat Guelph's football team this weekend. We will give you a final update on Monday of next week.

I kindly ask that you let your faculty know about this event. We are currently still seeking volunteers who are willing to get their heads shaved, willing to shave someone else' head, or just want to help raise money for the cause. Any interested volunteers can contact our fundraising coordinators, Eugenia and Melissa, at [email protected] il.com . I have attached a poster that you can put up on your forums. Here is also a blurb that you can put up.

During the halftime of a McMaster Marauders playoff football game, twenty brave volunteers will step out onto center field to have their heads shaved by McMaster students and dignitaries. The funds they raise will go towards supporting the pediatric division of the Canadian Cancer Society. Each year, our goal is to raise $20,000 for this worthy cause, and we have come quite close in recent years. If you or someone you know would like to shave their head, shave someone else's head, or simply raise money for Shave for a Cure, please contact one of the fundraising coordinators, Melissa or Eugenia, at [email protected] il.com. They will assist you in giving more information about the event and details such as filling out pledge forms, submitting tax receipts, gathering donation boxes, and preparing overheads for classroom promotion. Thanks for helping a great cause!

If you would be interested in helping out the day of, please let us know. We look forward to cooperating and working with you in making this year's Shave for a Cure bigger and better than before!
