Show it or Scan it?
So I am super happy that our Mac Student ID cards can be used as bus passes, but I just have a silly little question...
do you just show it to the driver or do you have to slide it through that scanner thing?

HSR (local hamilton transit) is free but you get discounts on GO and Greyhound and such I believe (I'm sure about GO, not so much about Greyhound and VIA Rail)

As of this year you must now use your McMaster student ID to get the student discount for the GO Transit. You must be a full time student to get this discount and you must have the HSR portion on your validation sticker.

There's already set student fare for Via Rail....the website says adult fare is for people 26-59.. though they might ask you for ID when you buy them.

This could be a dumb question but for the GO transit discount, is it on single/two-way tickets? Or just monthly passes?

It's 10-ticket rides and monthly passes only.
When you buy the tickets, just say you want a student 10-ticket ride or a student monthly pass.

To get the student fare for Via you need an International Student Identity Card (ISIC). You can get one at TravelCuts in the student centre.

The ISIC card gives you a huge discount and another thing you can do to get even more discounts is to buy a VIA rail 6-pack. I'm not sure what the savings are exactly but for my trip to cornwall which is normally about 80$ one-way (with student discount) I get the 6-pack for about 330$. So it's like 150$ off. (woohoo lol)

I Hadn't been on a bus since high school. I forgot how much fun busses are!

You can get I think 15% off on Greyhound tickets when you show your student card. As well as Ontario Northland Transit. Saved me some money when I had to go visit my grandparents up north
