Social Sciences --> Life Science Courses
Hi, the program I applied for and got into is the Social Science program. Now I'm wondering if I can take courses related to Life Sciences such as Bio, Chem, Physics while being in Social Science. I took all science and math courses in high school so I guess I have the pre-req covered, but I heard that if your program is 'Social Science' you cannot take courses outside the social science jurisdiction...

But can I take those as electives?

Also, because I'm in Social Science is there no way to get into Med school because I'm not in Life Sci?

Thanks for reading!

Make sure you are looking at your 2nd year prerequisites. You should follow that first then decide on your electives.
As far as Mac goes, the med school does not look at what program an applicant is in but rather the grades obtained in regular courses.
You can take sciences as an elective.

All you need are the prerequisites, if you satisfy the prerequisites for any course then you can take that course (Except for a couple programs where students have to select electives from a list of electives given, but I'm pretty sure that's not social science).

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I will look into the second year requirements.

More responses are welcome as well

I believe you can take 1st year chem and physics while being in soc sci, but for some reason the 1st year bio courses have a requirement where you must be in science. It's kind of a pain for anyone trying to switch into any life sci-related program, because they won't waive the requirement during the school year; you must take the courses in the summer, which is the only time when the department will grant a waiver. Alternatively, if you're just taking them as electives and don't need them completed prior to second year, people in any program can take them if they're in level 2+.
