Some of the Best Movies Just Aren't From Around Here
I'm stating something very obvious to many of us. I, myself, have appreciated movies from OUTSIDE North America much more than Hollywood films for a long time. I want to call attention to a movie called Harry Brown. VERY POWERFUL MOVIE. I won't lie, some of the parts were difficult to watch, and I'm not easily offended or grossed out. But parts of this movie were extremely powerful. Not for the weak of heart. If you're going to watch it, you'll have to try somewhere other than DC++, but I highly recommend it! Michael Caine at his best.

Another movie is Largo Winch. I noticed it was getting a really popular release while in Europe last summer, but I didn't buy it because, well.... I don't like the cost of ANYTHING in France. So I thought I would buy or download it here: Not only can I not buy it here over the internet, but I haven't been able to download it either!

The unfortunate part about these movies is that they never come out here!!! Or they take FOREVER! If you are able to legitimately purchase this movie in North America, I give you a very big high five. Until then Mr. MPAA, why do you think you can tell me I'm not allowed to download movies off the internet?

There hasn't even been a good movie since 2000, let alone great.

But yea, generally non-hollywood movies are pretty hard to find. D:

The thing is, the movies I am referring to aren't necessarily unpopular anywhere else... They get AWESOME reviews and they've got a decent budget . They're just funded by other film studios from, say, England or Germany, or some other country.

Harry Brown was spectacular. I didn't even think of it as a non Hollywood movie, though thinking about it now I guess any British film would be non Hollywood.

An absolutely amazing non Hollywood movie that I watched recently was Ink. The visuals are better than anything I've seen in a while, you can't even tell that it was independent. It was North American though, I think.

I'd highly recommend everyone torrent or stream it. The makers are actually encouraging piracy as a marketing tool. After watching it, you will want to buy it.

I wrote an article about this about a month and a half ago: http://talentegg.ca/launch/2010/02/b...entury-so-far/

Some other good (non-Hollywood) movies:
  • Rabbit Proof Fence
  • Whale Rider
  • Once Were Warriors

I've also heard really good things about:
  • Water
  • Earth
  • Fire
  • Let the Right One In

Primer is a very interesting independent film...especially for the math and physics geeks out there. It was very well done on a budget of only $7000.

The whole thing is on Google videos:

Edit: Just saw the previous post. Hivemind ftw lol.
