SPEQ- Speak Honestly About Equality
A few weeks ago, my professor gave the class an outline for our final project.
Option one, a group presentation: pick an organization, meet with the organization, and present your findings. Option two, a creative project: make a social platform from scratch and try to get anyone ( young or old, McMaster student or not) to engage, discuss and share information about a certain topic. The catch was we had to have 100,000 likes/ followers/subscribers or we would fail.EVERYONE IN THE CLASS SCREAMED.Toronto Star has blank # of subscribers! Justin Timberlake had x amount of followers, and he's a celebrity- we're just students at university. Some people gasp, that's impossible!
Now I have to admit, at first I thought it was impossible (and maybe in the short amount of time we have, it is impossible). But I couldn't live with not trying, so as crazy as it sounds we've chosen to do the creative project. We just launched the facebook and twitter page on Tuesday, and would love to hear from you.
If you're interesting in sharing, but also critically discussing images, articles and content on GENDER, EMPOWERMENT, AND SOCIAL MEDIA, support our project. If you come across any articles, videos, or just have a personal opinion about something related to the topic, join our social platforms and comment. The comment does not have to be empowering, per se, but positive vibes are always welcome.
