St. Patrick's Day party turns violent in London, Ontario
St. Patrick’s Day took an ugly turn in London, Ont. Saturday night when celebrations took a violent turn.
A TV truck was set a blaze and firefighters and police were pelted with rocks, bottles and two-by-fours, according to a spokesman for the London fire department.
“The situation was completely out of control and we had to pull back for the safety of our personal,” Paul Carew said.
The damage could be in the “hundreds of thousands of dollars,” he said.

i dont even really get the hype about st patty's day anyways, pretty sad if you need an excuse to get drunk in the middle of the day and act like a moron- half the people who partake in this aren't even irish and dont even know the meaning of the whole day- why bars open at 10-11am is questionable and kinda condones this type of stuff , if people want to get drunk early in the morning thats cool just let them do it at home like the other 364 days a year

funny how originally on st. patrick's day there were restrictions placed on the consumption of alcohol and people pretty much just went to church

I love how people use St. Pats as an excuse to get drunk and act stupid, it is entirely reflective of their IQ. I'm all for some casual drinking and relaxation but people have become so immature.

O__O
And I thought Mac was bad..
I was bussing home yesterday at 4pm and the streets were filled with drunk half naked dumb people stumbling everywhere. The bus was even worse; I was torn between killing everyone on the bus or killing myself.
I hate what St. Patrick's day has become. =/

Since you made this post, I assume you didn't kill yourself and thus killed everyone on the bus. What did you do with the bodies?

I'm going to play devil's advocate here. It was St. Patrick's Day, which although isn't the same as it's origins, people have been drinking for 12,000 years. So, in the history of people being 'civilized,' drinking is not a relatively new thing. The degree of, and number of stupid acts done is proportionate to how much people drink. The day is known for people drinking in excess, therefore, a lot of very stupid stuff is going to happen.
Of course there should be repercussions for those involved, but now there is a petition trying to get Fanshawe students that were involved expelled. So, what you're saying is, some people caused damages, which will be payed for in tax payers money, and then you want to expel the students, making them much less employable in the future, and then having to be supported by the tax payers money?
Personally, what I feel (although I have only taken grade 12 law and flipped through some law books in the library), is that those responsible should have to pay their part in damages and do community service. For whoever has to pay for the van, assuming they are a broke college kid, that is a pretty big deterrent in itself.
