You should get noise cancelling headphones. I have them and I love them. Your music doesn't have to be loud and it's like wearing earplugs. I use them for the busride.

In-ear style earbuds work also. Minimal leakage -- and if you're turning things up loud enough for people around you to hear, you'll probably be deaf in a matter of minutes.
