Invigilators are not TAs. They are students who ask to be invigilators. This is normally done by administrative people, but I'm sure that the profs would be able to write down a few names and book a few rooms in order to have mid-terms. And also for upper years most mid-terms are in class and run by the professor anyways.

Yes, the TA's are CUPE and the staff is CAW. There might be two unions going on strike at the same time.

Really? My professor said that the midterms are invigilated by TAs... I've also seen my TAs from labs invigilating the midterms... Guess it was just a coincidence then.
Well, that's a relief if there is going to be a strike.

Midterms are usually invigilated by TA's. For the finals the University hires additional invigilators.

The University and CUPE Local 3906, Unit 1, which represents teaching assistants and some research assistants, have jointly requested the services of a provincial conciliation officer as negotiations continue for a new collective agreement.
"Both parties have made progress towards a new collective agreement," says Peter Smith, associate vice-president academic and chair of the University bargaining committee. "We have agreement on a significant portion of the contract language and we look forward to the assistance of the conciliator as we work on coming to agreement on the remaining issues."
"CUPE 3906 remains committed to negotiating a fair contract at the bargaining table," affirms Local President Mary-Ellen Campbell. "We are optimistic that, with the support of our membership, we can reach agreement on remaining items that our members have told us are priority issues for them."
Requesting the assistance of a conciliator is a normal part of the bargaining process. In previous negotiations involving these parties, conciliation has been helpful in reaching a collective agreement.
Further negotiating sessions are scheduled for September 14, 16, 28 and 30. It is anticipated the conciliation officer would join the talks in October.

Some courses do have mid-terms invigilated by the TAs but there are others that are invigilated by regular students. I've never been a TA and I invigilated for 2 mid-terms last year.

Hmm yeah I recall my econ midterms being invigilated by the two T.A's and this one extra person! But for most courses it was only the T.A's
But the exams are invigilated by the Westdale/Ainslewood Neighborhood association right?

At least they're being reasonable and holding off on strike action... makes me feel like they realize it wouldn't be beneficial for anyone.
Good on them!
