usually courses with a light workload are marked heavily. (ie. if you only have 2 assignments and an exam throughout the whole course, the weight of the assignments and exam would be pretty high, so for example, each assignment may be worth 30% and your exam will be worth 40%) and if you mess up on one of them, your mark will drop drastically.
I've found that the "bird courses" are actually courses where you have weekly assignments/quizzes and have mandatory tutorials. Although it takes up more time, you're very unlikely to fail at every single assignment and quiz, so your mark, even if you don't do too well, will still be somewhat decent.
With that being said, linguistics 1a03 was an easy and interesting course. Easy not because the material is easy, but because there were weekly homework assignments to do which, although were not graded, were still marked on a pass/fail basis, and when you're forced to do homework, you automatically find yourself comfortable with the material being taught/practiced.
We got marks for clicker points, too, which meant we had to show up to lecture, and the professor (Dr. Anderson) made the lecture really fun, so i found myself actually wanting to go to lectures rather than having to go merely to get clicker points without listening.
Of course, we had mandatory tutorials, too, but that's just free marks right there.
The mid-term was pretty easy if you study, no trick questions, and there were multiple correct answers for many of the questions.
The exam was somewhat the same layout as the midterm, and after having written the mid term, you knew what to expect on the final, too.
Overall,
my favourite course and highest mark in first year.
Give it a try
