If this is the "help with registration" thing, then I also found it useless. It could be a good way of starting to meet people in your faculty though.

Ehhh I went to one of these before first year, it helped me learn the general layout of campus so I had a bit of a leg-up on some people but it really wasn't a big deal. You won't really miss out on anything if you skip it. Besides, there's welcome week!

Yes, this was utterly useless. If you need help with registration, the video they post online is good enough.

Just to clarify, this program is to give first years an exposure to McMaster University in an academic light.

There are advantages to attend the Summer Orientation Program because, unlike Welcome Week, where it's more focused on socializing with people within your residence and faculties, first years can expect to know areas around campus better and also establish goals that would enhance their learning experience. Some modifications to the presentations and exercise are to take place, as well.

And while some students find lesser interest in this program. It may put their parents at ease to know what to expect for their child's experience!
