Summer Orientation/Welcome Week
Hello everyone,

I know there is already a thread on missing [email protected], but I can't shake off that "I CAN'T BELIEVE I MISSED IT" feeling.

I am aware that the next event is the Summer Orientation day, then the Welcome Week, but what is the difference between each? My parents are so keen on coming with me to check out the place, so I would also like to know when it is most appropriate to bring 'em, and when it is most appropriate to come alone.

Thanks! :-D

Welcome Week is activities and stuff with your residence/off-campus and faculty. Lots of games and competitions, fundraising, dinners, etc... http://studentsuccess.mcmast er.ca/...come-week.html

the summer orientation program would be best to bring your parents to, if you go to the website you can check out the schedule and see some of the stuff thatll happen there, theres a 'parent program' that your parents can go to as well.... the orientation will kinda show your parents the academic side of university and all the stuff mac has to offer.. welcome week is really just for students, i dont know anyone who had their parents there other than for move in. its basically a fun week about getting to know people and participating in events and stuff! rather than focusing only on academics its more about transitioning and meeting people and having fun before all your work starts !

Definitely the summer orientation. I went to it in my first year, and it's definitely the time to bring your parents. While you go off and explore the campus, your parents can go to talks with people presenting stuff about the university life and what to expect. For instance, a couple of friends and I did a library tour and a walk around the campus to familiarize myself with the buildings while our parents sat through a talk on university finances and budgets. Welcome Week, on the other hand, is more directed towards you. It's all mostly faculty/residence-based activities designed to welcome you to the university and help ease the transition from high school to university. Both Orientation and Welcome Week are awesome and loads of fun, however, so I'd advise you to go to both!

Summer Orientation = bring parents = tours and getting prepared for school

Welcome Week = party = ...parent-free party?
