summer osap?
I downloaded the form for summer osap and it says that the deadline for applying is 30 days before the term ends, which is gonna be sometime in mid-may, so i left it aside. Now i'm about to apply but they're already giving out the money on May 2 and the due date for paying tuition is May 1? I'm confused, so I paid the amount to my student account now, and then apply osap and wait for the release sometime later?

Yes. Technically, that may 1st deadline is somewhat tentative. You can take all summer to pay, the only difference is that you'll accumulate interest and your marks may not be released.

So even if you didn't pay your student account, you would still apply for OSAP and wait for whatever amount to be released. Then it's your money to do what you will with it. You don't even technically have to use it to pay your student fees, but most people obviously choose to.

What about term 2 courses? Is the payment for these courses also due on May 1st? I am currently registered in two term 2 courses, but I am still unsure whether I'll be taking them or not. I know that I still have to do the payment agreement by May 1st, but I don't want to pay now, as I am not sure whether I'll end up taking the courses. If I drop them later (before the add and drop deadline for term 2), will I be charged anything? I'm quite confused... I don't want to be charged unnecessarily!

I believe all payment regardless of the term is due May 1st. I think you should just pay for it anyways, even if you aren't sure because you have until June 24th to drop the course without losing any money. It's better than paying the interest that can build up if you do decide to take the course.

I am actually counting on OSAP to help me pay for the courses if I do decide to take them. I haven't applied for summer OSAP yet. Should I just the drop the courses now and add them again when I am sure that I do want to take them? Again, I'm so confused. I don't understand why one is expected to pay for term 2 courses now.

I thought you were only qualified for OSAP in the summer if you were to take 4 courses throughout the summer (e.g. 2 courses per term).

I know, it sounds kind of weird to pay for a course that you're going to take 2 months later, but I think you should just pay it now since you aren't really sure. If you are applying for OSAP, you'll get that money back later if you were to pay now. As well, even if you decided not to take it before June 24, you will get all of your money back guaranteed. As well, what if those courses aren't available when you try to re-register for them?

When I called the Finances office, they said that you can take just 2 courses in term 1 (and not attend term 2) and still be covered under OSAP. I ended up signing up for my courses late, so I just handed in my addendum form yesterday, and they told me that since OSAP takes 1-2 weeks to release, I'll accumulate interest in that time until I can pay off the course fees.
