Is it similar to a normal year but shorter? Is the classes in a lecture room or a smaller room? Is it harder or easier?

Normal year, but shorter? Yes, of course.
Lecture room or a smaller room? depends on the class and the amt of people taking the course.
Is it harder or easier? depends on the prof. Easier in the sense that you are only focused on the limited number of courses that you enrolled.

Usually a lot more laid back. And fun.
But the work goes by fast. Can't miss a class, or you'll fall faaaaar behind.
But everyone's usually more relaxed.

It is similar to normal year but condensed into 7 weeks per semester, 2 days a week, 3 hours a day. (Of course this depends on the class)
Lecture room or smaller room: depends on the course itself and the number of people

Easier or harder? That also depends on the course and the prof but you cramp way more information in one class since a semester is very short. For some people, this is easier because they learn better that way and they are able to remember more information than when taken in the normal year. For others it can be hard because they can't handle taking too much information at one time.

Linguistics 1A03 and Geography 1HB3, I have taken them during the year and I don't know how they work in the summer but they are both great courses and quite enjoyable (in my opinion)

Summer school is awesome. All the girls wear bikinis, and all the dudes bring their surf boards in. Then every 30 minutes we have an hour surf break on the nearby beach. If you aren't a surfer you can watch the chicks play beach volleyball. Then at the end of the we all get together and sing near a fire.

Oh wait, it's summer school in California....
