I suppose that this is possible, for some models, but looking at my computer, the screen is recessed approximately 3mm into the lid, and the keys are recessed by a couple of mm into the base. Further, there are rubber knobs around the edge of the lid to help keep the "delicate" portion of the lid (ie the screen) seperate from the keys.

So, my point is, if the screen/lid is bent that much by heavy weight, I suspect the lid or the entire computer would break before the keys have a chance to "etch" into the screen.

Interesting insight though! This is certainly a situation that the average student wouldn't have to deal with.

the laptops that suffered from the keyboard etch flaws was present in laptops 6-7 years ago. My 12 inch powerbook had the problem but my new pro doesn't.
