Surviving a Zombie Apocalypse
Alright guys, i dont know about you, but i have wasted many nights drinking with my buddies, and debating for hours how to survive a zombie apocalypse. Really going in depth to scenarios and disecting all posibilities and probable problems that each alternative could produce. So I ask you, how would you survive a zombie apocalypse? and yeah expect people to be critical of your suggestions, ie dont say live in a gun shop, your gonna run out of food before you run out of bullets Have at it!

... anyone else really bored of talking about this?

I swear for an entire year, everyone I know was going on about their stupid "zombie survival plan", which typically involved a lot of excerpts from zombie movies they like to think they thought of themselves.

Anyway, realistically I would just bunker myself away and hide. There aren't enough guns out there to go around, and you aren't going to just walk into a police station and take them. Likely, you don't even know how to operate a gun properly anyway.

Any realistic zombie disease would either result in really disoriented and weak people that die off after a couple weeks (at max), or people that go into massive rage but burn out all their internal organs really quickly (think the bath salts incident guy) and die within a few hours of infection.

If you are bored with this topic, dont post! and well pretty sure it doesnt matter if you dont know how to operate a gun, if you have one, your going to use it regardless. As for bunkering down, where would food come from?

This thread immediately made me think of this:

...and I'm pretty sure that I would be in the red zone just from living in a high density area I doubt I would be able to avoid becoming someone's breakfast strabucks substitute

Yes, this is currently one of my most dreaded conversation topics. Maybe number two behind people talking about their cell phones and tablet computers.

No guns. Guns run out of ammo. No ammo, boom, you're dead.

Solution? Go back to our ancient roots. Spears, swords, shields, and alike.
Start training, basic training, pick up a book. Ancient military formations, phalanx, specifically a testudo phalanx. What is that you may ask?

Once you've got a nice little formation going. Head out. In that EXACT formation. You don't have alot of time. You need to find a place to fortify once you've picked a nice place. A place perferabbly with a winding up ramp, with no fences (makes it easy to push off zombies). Something that can be self sustaining as well... able to grow crops, a well, perhaps even the lake in the background, whatever. But that is a best case scenario. Worst case? Find an alleyway. Do shiftwork involving this as the guard to the entrance. Hoard all the supplies in the back where the people who can't fight stay.

Best place would probably be in the city. Tons of supplies, food etc. Probably tons of zombies as well though. But with the testudo formation, I find that it should be a good way to deal with them... hordes of them. Especially if we have a good position.

^ That is exactly what I always planned. Why run out of bullets when you get some good defensive formations? Then I realized that bodes pile up, then you are screwed :b

Ideally I would aim for some kind of cargo ship that goes on the ocean, since they would have to keep many weeks worth of food and then by the time you run out the zombies would have decayed!

There are batman/superman comics with them handling werewolves/vampires.

I'll let them handle it.

Well then ignore the thread and move onto the next? I have a lot of friends that talk about this, and I can't seem to find an official discussion thread on here already talking about it so great idea Chris to start one!

Referring to TV shows/movies, the only 'realistic' show I can think of being the Walking Dead, if you wanted to discuss what you would have done differently than what the characters did or ended up doing (so far) on the show, I'd entertain that discussion but if we take Zombies out of the equation and just talk about survival in general if any sort of outbreak were to occur... a really interesting TV show to watch if you haven't yet is one called Jericho. One of my FAV shows. Some really good 'realistic' outcomes are played out in that show.

You want to talk survival in general from an apocalypse? (which in of itself has a lot of angles to talk about), or are you specifically looking to talk zombies lol

A thread was also started on MI about some students doing a mathematical breakdown, for those who are into math: Three University of Ottawa students have mathematically expressed the outcomes of a zombie invasion and what we should do to overcome. Check it out: http://www.mathstat.uottawa. ca/~rsmith/Zombies.pdf

The problem is there has to be some kind of slope to the bodies since they are unlikely to interlock... so the determined zombie can climb them!

Oh, and Hyundai just recently last month released a car specifically for a zombie outbreak that they actually are building.

But since no one has the money to pay for that here's some tips on how to zombie proof your own student-budget car:
