Switching from Software Engineering to Game Design
I applied for software engineering thinking that game design was a choice you made later on but discovered that they're actually a bit different and have different courses for Level II.

How easy is it to switch between these two streams and how would I go about this?

Or is this something I could do at the end of Level II Software Engineering?

First make sure you have all the requirements to get into that stream. After that you would need to talk to the engineering advisor about switching. You can do this at any time, but the earlier the better.

Thanks, I actually had another question as well. I didn't get into management this year but is it possible to re-apply at the end of the year if my CA is higher? And does Game Design & Management exist? I couldn't find any mention of it anywhere. I do know that Software Engineering and Management exists though.

If you got into just software, you *should* be able to get into game design. But you will have to go see Sally or Jeane and see if thats going to be possible

It's very easy to switch between the software streams. I was in software engineering and game design, but switched into software and embedded second semester of second year because the game design component was kind of stupid.

To switch you have to go to the engineering office, who will send you to Martin von Mohrenschildt, who will send you back to the engineering office, who will then send you back to him.

The only difference between software and game and straight software is you have two more courses. One is on how to use photoshop, and the other is on how to use Final Cut Pro. One word to sum up both of them : retarded.

Dillon don't discourage him! Its his personal choice. I know its your personal opinion but you could put that in better words...lol...Is it that bad though? Don't you think it gets better from third year onwards when you get to make games?

Answering the original Question:

If you have a decent GPA, talk to Sally Williams ASAP. I am sure she could put you in the program right away. Don't delay it since SOLAR opened for registration today!
