Minor in Software Engineering?
I will be entering McMaster U this Fall in the Social Sciences program and I was hoping to use my electives to minor in Software Engineering. Is a minor offered in SE? And if it is, what courses would you suggest I take to achieve this?

No, you cannot minor in an engineering stream. You *may* be able to minor in computer science, but I'm not sure.

Also, can anyone confirm if minoring in Computer Science is possible? And if so, how it may be achieved?

Looks like a minor in Computer Science is the closest you can get to a minor in SE.

What about the other way around?

Go into SE and minor in something for SocSci

With the software and society program, I believe that should be possible.

Ya, every engineering has an "and society" option. Basically they stretch your engineering degree to 5 years rather than 4, which creates spaces for you to fill with electives. Most people in society use this to minor in something (i.e. geography, astronomy, French, English, pokemon training .etc).

I think you also get some random essay courses too, but I'm not sure.

Or Elec and Biomed.

Or any of the Software streams.

But yeah, if you can get into Eng and really like the software stuff, then I'd say go for Software and Society.

Plus that way, your Eng jacket can say "Soft Scty" and people will call you Soft Scotty.

But in case it wasn't immediately obvious, your four/five years at Mac will be vastly different if you pick Eng over Soc Sci as your main thing. Most notably due to the 60~120% increase in **** rape.

The extra Eng and Society courses you take are pretty awesome though. If you don't fear the English language like some other engineering students, then you should enjoy them.
