taking a course which i technically shouldnt
i am in commerce first year, and therefore i have alot of electives to pick, one of them is chem 1R03, which is first year introductory chem course, for people who did not take grade 12 chem U,

it says it is not "open to students with 80% or higher in Grade 12 Chemistry U", however, i did have a higher than 80% in chem u

so.. my question is NOT: can i still take it, because i know i can, since it is on my timetable
my question IS: would i get a credit for this course if i take it and pass it, i am kinda worry in case i wont earn a credit in this class which would be a waste of money and time

so if you know anything, please share your thought

I'd go speak with an advisor immediately. You probably won't get credit in the course.

You cannot assume that just because its on your timetable that you can take it. Eventually they will perform a detailed review of whether people have pre-requisites for the courses they are enrolled in and since you do not (since you scored >80%), then your pre-requisite check will fail and you will not be allowed to be registered in the course anymore.

I say this from experience, I was registered in a course for which I did not have the required grade in the pre-req, they let me register for it and it came on my timetable but then afterwards in my program and course summary, where it shows you whether you are cleared or not to take a course, it said I had failed to meet the requirements for the course.

So my advice to you is to drop the course. But as mentioned above you may also want to speak to someone. But honestly, don't take a course if you don't meet the requirements, there's a reason for those pre-reqs and you are probably just wasting 500 dollars b/c you'd just be learning all that stuff from grade 12 once again. It's still early in the term so no harm done, just find another course that fits with your timetable.

Good luck!
