Taking SCH4U in the summer
i'm probably going to accept my life sciences offer, but do not have sch4u. i'm thinking about taking it in booklets so i will be able to take the chem courses first year. this way i will not have to pay $500 to take a harder course first year and i can get it over with in the summer.

when do we pick courses for first year? and when i'm finished this course, who do i bring it to at mcmaster for proof that i can take first year chem classes? do you think they will give me any trouble regarding this?

thanks - created a thread asking about sch4u before and just wanted some more clarification.

* just called admissions and the woman said i won't be able to pick the courses requiring sch4u until i'm complete the class. they pick courses in june but someone told me i can get some sort of waiver that will tell them i am doing the course in the summer. is this true? what happens if i wait until august to complete it and then the class is full?

Yes, there is a waiver you can get from the Faculty of science allowing you to register for the course if you show proof that you are registered in the course. The waiver will show up on SOLAR under the Unused Course Permissions tab.

For the completion of your course, I assume your report card would be sufficient proof. The faculty of science isn't too difficult to deal with, so this definitely shouldn't be a problem for you.

Wait, how are you taking it over the summer? I'm trying to figure out a way to do that.

I'm in the same situation with physics. How can I get the waiver? Do I need to make an appointment with an advisor?

best to talk to an advisor and you can get an appointment by emailing them first or walking into the office
