Taxes: What to do?
Hey Everyone,

So I've never filled out taxes in the past three years but now am finally getting to it. What I have right now is a pile of documents that contains everything from the year 2009(i.e: Last year's submission) and a form for 2009 taxes.

Question #1: Do I have to fill out three separate forms and application packages for three years(08, 09,10? I had no income in 2008)

Question #2: If so can I simply file my 2009 receipts right now(Since I need some money asap) and wait a while before I collect my 2010 T4's, rent receipts and Title's reciepts etc?

Any other tips/helpful comments? Thanks!

1) Yes, you need to file taxes for each year individually (and the form often changes each year).

2) Yes, You can file them one at a time. So file your 2008 and 2009 right away if you have all the info you need. Even if you had no income, you should still file your 2008 taxes, in case you qualify for a credit / rebate.

You can also file your taxes for 2010 and then refile later if you get more info. This is sometimes useful if you have an employer who takes forever to get you your T4 (I've waited into June for some unnamed large University Employer in the past). If its getting near April and you don't have your T4's, its better to file with the data you have and refile when you get it, than be late on filing your taxes.

huzaifa47 says thanks to dsahota for this post.
