Tech Free for Change
Technology: NEED or a WANT?

In today’s culture, most of us have become dependent on communication technology in some form or another. And most of us have become dependent on that technology without being aware of how much we rely on it.

47% of people say their social life would worsen if they didn’t have a cell phone … Could your social life survive without your cell phone for a day?

Are YOU up for a challenge?

See if you can follow these simple rules for one day!
1. Decide on 1 piece of technology (you can chose more if your up for a harder challenge!) that you can give up for one day (or any desired time period, it could be for 1 hour or even 10 minutes if that’s all you can do). It can be an ipod, cell phone, lap top, internet, facebook, etc.
2. Reflect on your day, listen deeper, and determine how dependent were you on some form of technology

Come out to the MUSC Clubspace from 10:30am to 7:00pm on OCTOBER 26th, 2010 for workshops, activities, and most importantly, a TECH FREE ZONE! Clubspace will be open to all students who are willing to give up their technology while in the space, and activities will be based on doing regular things without technology. As well we will be collecting change for the United Way, a great organization which helps minimize poverty in the community we live in.

The point is not to abstain from technology because it is horrible, actually technology has allowed us to advance in many ways, although it is one day to put yourself in the shoes of someone who must finish an assignment without being able to afford the internet, or reflect on life without being plugged in.

For more information, workshop schedules, or to register to take the pledge email us at [email protected] il.com or check out the facebook group “Tech Free for Change”

The workshop schedule will be announced on facebook as well as sent to those who have registered.

UNPLUG your technologies on October 26, 2010 and discover what you have been missing!

There are two things you need: food and water (and sun, oxygen, etc). Everything else is expendable.

So shelter is expandable, you could live without technology?

The answer to both is no.

You're calling me a moron yet you used "expandable." Seriously?

And yes, you could. In this day and age and in this country? No. But that's not what I'm talking about.

What's moronic is giving up technology for some sort of bullshit cause for a single day while lounging around in a gargantuan building built by technology. But I wasn't gonna bring that up.

Lol. I could easily not use my phone. I mostly use it to check HSR scheds and spam people while I'm on the bus.

While I do agree technology has appeared to make us dependent, that dependence is on efficientcy. Sure I could 'survive' without technology in terms of a social life or other luxury things, but I don't want to, because its tedious to communicate by ... other means.

tldr: another silly 'cause' that has no real merit
