I considered TekSavvy, but instead I went with Acanac:

http://www.acanac.com/

Quite decent speeds, and if you sign up for a 12-month contract the 5Mbps download / 800kpbs upload plan is works out to about $27 a month after taxes and everything - including DSL dry loop for not having a phone landline. Cheaper than TekSavvy. Unlimited bandwidth too.

The catch is, you gotta pay lump sum for the 12 months. Not an issue since I plan to be here throughout the summer, but it could pose a problem for those of you in the Hammer for 8 months at a time. And I gotta remember to cancel at the end of the 12 months or else it renews.

Overall, I'm still willing to get over those issues and save a decent amount of money for practically the same Internet.

I've had TekSavvy ever since 2007. They're awesome. I've gone over the 200 GB cap a few times (~50 GB max), and they've never charged me for overage .

What connections do they offer? The general 1, 5, 7, 8 and 10 Mbit?

Unfortunately they only offer 5 Mb/s with 800 Kb/s up. This is indirectly Bell's fault for being too damn cheap to update their infrastructure, which TekSavvy is forced to use.

Also if you need to switch, what equipment do you need to have. And the installation has to be done by yourself? I know that we need a modem, but is there a specific one we need to buy or any modem will do?

And about Acanac I saw that the prices are 18.95/month for 12 months. And i guess you have to pay it upfront. Is it easy to switch between the two?

Also once the 12 months are over, do the prices increase or saty the same since the 18.95 is a promotional offer.

You can use any DSL modem. The one TekSavvy kind of recommends is the SpeedTouch 560 I think. It's around $100 to get it from them, and about $20 to get one off of eBay.

The installation is pretty simple - plug phone cord into modem, plug ethernet into modem, plug the other side of the ethernet into the router. :p

Promo is only the first year by the looks of it. Fine for me, but maybe not for a longer term home connection.

You would have to calculate your final costs after taxes and any extra charges (DSL dry loop) between TekSavvy and Acanac and make the call from there.
