What is Term 3?
So i'm taking 5 courses first term, and 4 courses second term. I have another course, Inquiry 1SC3 which is only being offered third term. Does that mean i'll have to take Inquiry throughout my first and second term? And how would my GPA for first year be calculated?

Term three = term 1 + term 2. Also known as a full-year course.

Your GPA for your first year is calculated the same regardless of when you take your courses. You take the credit value of each course (3 or 6 units for the most part) multiply it by the grade you recieve (out of 12) and divide by the total number of units you are registered in.

Usually if a course is only offered in term 3 then it has a 6 at the end though. ie 1A06 but you said it's term 3 and its Inquiry 1SC3 which throws me off a bit.

It might be a full year course that isn't 6 units. I know that band/choir works this way as the course is only worth 3 units but it runs throughout the whole year. I'm guessing that with Inquiry 1SC3, that you will not have three hours of class each weeks, since it does run the whole year.

Yeah, Inquiry got changed from a half year to a full year course last year (or perhaps the year before)...so you're doing two terms worth of work for half the credits.

To answer your first question: YES. Third term means over BOTH semesters. Since you have 5 courses in your first semester already (its full up) you will have to drop a class in your first semester picks in order to make room for 2-semester Inquiry course.

But if the inquiry course is only 3 units, he'll still be short 3 (ie only have 27 units for first year). I'm not sure what to do about that, but it would definitely be something to think about before finalizing course choices.

I found this on the Mac website...
It's a little outdated (2001), so I'm not sure if the course has the same layout, but it seems like you would have more work in second term...in which case it would make sense to take your five courses in term 1, four in term 2, and the inquiry in term 3 (that is, if you wanted to have a full 30-unit courseload)

Yup, Sarah13 you're right. That's what you're supposed to do with the inquiry class.
