IS there any way to take a course without HAVING the prerequisite?
I intend on taking biochem 2EE3 as one of my electives next year, but Chem 2OA3 is one of the prerequisites (and I dont want to take Chem 2OA3). Is there any way for me to get a prerequisite waiver?

Yeah I know a few people who did. Not sure how, but I think you just ask the department to waive it.

you could take chem 2e03(easier orgo with no lab), but i remember the prof saying at the beginning of the semester that he never waives the orgo requirement of the course.

You could probably get waived in. From personal experience, it's not hard to convince profs to let you in - usually, they don't ask that many questions
|

I was in that class for one day this semester (dropped it because I hate chemistry and the like), and the prof said that he is extremely strict on the pre-requisite policy. So for this course, I doubt that you'll be able to get the orgo pre-req waived.

Man that course is awful. Chem 2OA3, on the other hand, is a great course.

Like I mentioned I know people who have, sadly I don't know exactly how.

i remeber hes like , hundreads of students asked me to waive the pre req and my answer was no and i personally don't think you should get i waived, everyone else had to do orgo and so should you

Like others have mentioned, Dr. Zhorov mentioned that he doesn't waive the Orgo requirement. But Ia lso know people who got it waived.. So I guess it depends? =/

I asked a few months back for the orgo prerequisite to be waived, as I couldn't take orgo this year and I needed this course, but despite writing what I thought was a convincing, persuasive plea, my request for a waiver was rejected.

i guess ill write a letter to the prof and see if he is willing to waive the prerequisite, it would really suck if he refuses though, because i have absolutely no intention of taking chem 2OA3 nor do i understand why its a prerequisite

You definitely do not need 2OA3 to teach you how to memorize slides word for word...
So why it is a pre-req is a mystery!

The only reason I'm mad about the orgo prereq is that virtually every other university offers a biochem course that doesn't require it.

its most likely class size. look at our class now theres 600+ kids in the course all we all took the prereqs. imagine if they waived it, there would prob be 1000+ kids wanting to take the class and as we all know mac is cheap god forbid they would put another core in. |
