How much class do you skip per week? Kathy2 Academics 48 02-02-2010 08:04 PM

Will there be an impact to skip enviro sci 1A03 1 class every 2 weeks?

I have a conflict in my schedule, which my chem lab is at the same time as environ 1A03 class. But since lab is every other week, i'm gonna skip 1 class every 2 weeks, will I miss out much stuff or can I catch up on my own?

Thanks!

If you can't switch the enviro sci class, you can always talk to jeff landry to get your chem lab moved.

for enviro 1a03, there a notes that bernier fills in in lecture just like in chem. you will miss those, but last year a good guy posted notes after each lecture for everyone so we didnt need to go. i would change the lab. landry will let you change for sure into what fits.

Haha, that "good guy" is my bud. He said he'll never do it again.

or should i switch to 1bb3 econ which has no conflicts in my schedule, but i will have 2 econ next term which people dont recommand it ..

i wouldnt take both econs since both midterms will be on same day which would be annoying and i wouldnt be surprised if you have chem/bio midterm the day before.

anyways, i would miss enviro instead of math. the notes arent too important in enviro 1a03. try to get them off of someone tho. they do help with the online quizzes but google was good enough for those too. the notes are near useless for the exam. try to get a friend to take the course with you or something. its a real easy course so if your friends are looking for a mark booster, tell them to take it.

coffeecappu says thanks to Silver for this post.

If I had to choose between missing one class every two weeks or one class every week, that seems like a complete no-brainer...I don't understand what is making you think it might be better to miss one math class every week?

Also, why don't you just go to Landry and ask to be switched into a different chem lab...that's the smartest thing to do, since then you won't have to miss anything.

You should also look into whether or not the tests are in-class, because if they are and it conflicts, you'll have to pick either the lab or the test. Choosing to proceed with a conflict is done entirely at your own risk and is not a legitimate excuse for missing a test/lab/assignment.

I did not think missing math is better than environ sci , so is not ur not understanding but ur misunderstanding i guess?
I said if i change my lab time [one 1 time slot is possible], i am going to miss my math class.
So that means, it is either math or environ sci, but I am leaning more to enviro sci
Hope u get what i am saying [email protected]@
I will just get notes from last semester's class then..

You asked which people thought was better, which implies you aren't sure which you should do...so I was confused I guess because if you know the answer, why ask the question? I wasn't sure if I was missing something (like you being really good at math and not so good at enviro sci).

Your schedule doesn't even fit full sections? Because for legitimate conflicts, Landry will open up a spot for you. If that doesn't work, many first-year courses have multiple cores. It shouldn't be impossible to keep all the courses you have and not have conflicts, if you talk to profs about getting into full sections.

Alternatively, you could take a course in the summer or next year.

People on MI have posted previously that the science faculty will not allow a conflict unless you're in your final year with no other choice. So even if you are willing to miss a class every other week, they might not allow it. Apparently they contact you within the first month or so of the term and tell you you can't...I don't have personal experience with that so I can't give you any more information, but people have posted on these forums before about it.

As per the suggestions above, you should try to switch your chem lab. Check on SOLAR everyday! People may be drop based on their chem 1a03 mark or be like you, trying to fix up their schedule. Bernier does videos in class, but envir sc 1a03 is taught by Sean Carey this year so I don't know how things will change.
