Commuting to Mac is difficult, that's for sure. I commuted first year from Brampton and I'm in engineering...and I will never do it again :( If I recall, I had about 5 hours or less of sleep. I would end up falling asleep during lectures, which was bad. To be honest, I was really tired a lot of the days, and drank coffee and energy drinks non-stop. Everything was a blurr in first year lol.

It all depends on if you'd rather come home early, which means having 830 labs/classes or come home at night which allows you to have less morning classes/labs (if it's possible). I didn't want to stay late, so I had the 830 labs 4/5 days and I would finish around 330-430. Try to avoid rush hour.

Occassionally, I would have 2-3 hr breaks and I would bring homework. I lived at the library, and that's all I did was work...or end up falling asleep doing work. BUT you'd have to carry the heavy textbooks all day, which is annoying. My commute was about 1.5 hrs, so I used that time on the bus to catch up on sleep or to catch up on readings. If you have late night tutorials, such as for math (some of them run 530-620), if you feel they don't help you then don't waste your time going to them.

Like Andrew said, time management is important. I really didn't have time to do anything else asides from school which kinda made my 1st year crappy. But IF you can manage your time extremely well, commuting and doing well in school is totally possible. Good luck!

I'd try to use the commute time as efficiently as possible.
I'll be commuting from Mississauga and I've done the route twice now.

It's really not impossible to read or do something on the bus while you go. If you feel sleepy (and use an alarm as opposed to how I shut it off), you could sleep on the way.

I'm sure a lot of students are in your situation, you probably don't hear about them as much. You may not have all the time in the world to go clubbing for instance but I'm sure it'll work out fine once you adjust.

My friend's sister who graduated this year commuted from Mississauga for 3 years. She wanted to stay on residence for her 2nd year to experience what it was like and found out her marks suffered because she socialised more which left less time for studying.

Each person is different but I do believe if you want it, you can make it work

All the best
