Tips for Commuters!
Hey MacInsiders and you Veteran students!
Give us commuter some advice!

What are the best way to capitalize on time wasted during the commutes.
According to Google my commute via the 05 bus will be 58 minutes plus a 15 minute walkish... HELPPP!!! And that is one way.

What should I do that you have found helpful?

From my friends who commute: nap, read lecture notes, or just relax. That's all you can do really.

Sleep, since you most likely won't be getting enough of that at night.

Plan as much as you can.
Do your readings in advance and try to keep your weekends free for big chunks of schoolwork.
If you can, read on the bus.

Pack lunches because every time you set up to study and then have to pack up for a "quick meal", you'll waste needless amounts of time. Find a good place to catch naps between classes.

If you don't find review helpful or have clearly determined that one class doesn't require lecture attendance, skip it to study. There were times in first year I would take a day of "review" off so that I saved at least 3 hours where I could learn the material myself more than enough.

Spend the hour bus ride listening to loud music to either:
(a) get yourself up in the morning ride to mac, or
(b) keep yourself from falling asleep on the ride back home...

Unless you have a midterm that day, then every minute is precious and needs to be used to study!

BUT DON'T SLEEP ON HSR BUSSES. Unless you like people staring at you

Eavesdrop on people's conversations and inconspicuously take pictures of hot chicks/cool tshirts on the bus.

That sounds like something Entropy would do, oh wait, he already does.

And if you eat anything that smells bad, it's even worse.

You can't sleep on an HSR bus unless you want to miss your stop or have your feet ploughed over by a baby stroller. x\ and anyway, it's just hard to fall asleep when the roads are so bumpy and the rides are so short. I can never read without getting nauseous or almost missing my stop, so studying is pointless.

I live on the mountain, and having to take 2 busses to mac on a 40 minute commute is easily the most annoying/wasteful part of my day. ~__~

but anyway, tips:
1. hand sanitizer
2. never underestimate the weather, and always have a spare pair of socks in your backpack
3. if it's the day of a midterm where you'll have to spend all day at school, check your bag carefully before you leave the house and don't forget your laptop adaptor (trust me, having to go home to get it is a pain like no other)

BlueWave, guildenstern all say thanks to anon491 for this post.

Ah yes, nice one about the socks. I carried at least 2 in winter (I had really crappy boots, okay?).

I also got into the habit of carrying an extra change of clothes. Nothing too heavy, just you know, a shirt, sweatpants. You never know when you'll fall in snow.

LOL well if it's anything bad, you'll get dirty looks and stop.

But what's if the person sitting beside you is eating your favorite blueberry bagel and you're starving!?
