Tips on school work
Hi guys i know its my first week but im kind of getting stressed becuase i just had the flu and i commute so i was to tired to do any of my readings and now im behind. Im also in commerce 1st year and was wondering if you guys have tips on what you guys do after class such as read ahead in every class and take notes on the textbook or just goto class and take notes on what the teacher says. Also how much hours do you guys study everyday. Sorry if this question is sort of broad. Also for linguistics should i be taking notes on the textbook or just taking down the notes the teacher presents in class.

I think that whether or not you take notes really depends on your prof and your learning style. Some profs post full notes where you can follow along and add your own notes or just listen in class and jot down anything that isn't posted. Other profs post very few notes or just basic outlines and they expect you to come to class and take down your own notes. I wouldn't suggest copy down what they write word for word, just jot down the ideas and any specific examples they give (may come up in tests but they also just help you understand the topic).

In terms of reading ahead, some profs use the textbook heavily while others use it religiously. If the textbook is important, I would read ahead just to the class after and go over any posted notes so you know what the topic is and have some background knowledge before the class.

Studying is the same thing. I end up doing most of my studying in class because I can remember the general concepts and understand them IN class and use time at home to memorize things that I cannot remember but each person has their own learning style.
