How does summer school work?
How many classes can you take in the summer? is it like a normal year where you have a class 3x, per week? Can you take multiple courses?

usually there are 2 classes a week which last up to two hours. If your a commerce student and intend on getting ahead by taking Econ 2X03 i suggest you reconsider if either Aswani or Holmes is teaching the course. Take it during the school year with R khan. He may at times be hard to understand but his tests are extremely easy.

Alright, sounds good. Would I be able to take 2 courses in the summer?

You can. You could also either take 1 in one semester and 1 in the second semester, provided they are offered in the respective semester.

Normally you can take two half-term classes per term, provided they are offered on alternating evenings (Monday and Weds or Tues and Thurs). In total you will have around six hours of class per week for each class; some classes only go about two hours, but many go the full time (7-10pm).
However, you can overload (take three courses a term) provided your extra course doesn't conflict (sometimes you can get a course during the day, but it happens much more frequently in some faculties than others) but you need permission from your department to do so.

You can take two courses each semester of summer school. The first semester goes from beginning of May till the middle of June and the second semester is the middle of June till the end of July/beginning of August.
Since there is half the amount of time for the course, the course load is doubled. So you will have about 6 hours of class per course per week.

Is summer school easier, in the sense you only have to devote your time to one course, as opposed to 4, 5, or even 6?

It is waaaay easier imo. Although the pace is twice as fast its still very manageable. Also I find that the weightings are very much different from Fall/Winter terms (tailored for better marks). For example, ECON 1BB3 the weighting for the (really easy) assignments in summer were a lot more than the regular term iirc so in a sense you can pretty much get a better mark in the summer.
Another thing to consider (especially in engineering) is that you pay up so a certain amount of credits (max of 30-32) and anything above that is esentially free. So if you drop a course and take it in the summer than you may be paying extra lol. Just a thought.

Also remember its harder to concentrate on your studies in the summer, essp with three hours lectures, and you can essentially count one summer course as two in the regular term...
So taking two courses in the same term in the summer is more or less like taking 4 in the regular year...
Plus you have to be careful if you want to do professional or graduate school, sometimes you are penalized for having a reduced workload in the regular term...
