Transfer into Commerce, but didnt do well 1st semester?
I made up my mind
I want to go into commerce

I was first semester engineering

but I ended up with an average of around 3.7

C+ C+ C+ C- F F

these were my marks

I realized i made the wrong choice for choosing engineering which was mostly made by my dad

I read that you need a GPA of 7.0 to transfer

what will happen to me? I dont want to do eng and I want to go into business

I am going to talk with them tomorrow, but I am just posting now because I am really curious to find out whats going to happen

What is required by me?
I dont want to leave McMaster

any one experienced this before?
thoughts ?

Perhaps take as many courses as you can in the summer? I think talking to an academic advisor would be the best thing to do though.

You won't be able to transfer now-now, as you'll have to wait for May review period. Summer courses won't matter, in this situation. This is just what I know from experiences. In my first year, they told me to work really hard to bump up my average in term 2. But that didn't go that well, so I had to do the whole reinstatement process.

For engineers, you have a bit more opportunities (I think). If your average is still low, then you'll probably have to apply for reinstatement (most likely) into Btech.

RyanC says thanks to Arcesri for this post.

Similar thing happened to my friend after first year of engineering. He is in commerce now. Best thing is to really talk to the academic advisors of engineering AND commerce faculty. They'll likely put you on probation for a certain amount of time and you will be taken off it once you do well in second year.

What do you think? You need at least a 7.0 average to be considered. If your average is below 7.0 you won't be considered.

I transferred from life sci to commerce. Your going to need to have a 7.0. Typically they accept everyone who reaches the 7.0 as there is never excess demand. If you have less than a 6 theres no way you are getting in. Best bet if you are in between 6-7 is to talk to lori hill.

Ask commie if you need help. He's bbm bros with Dr. Bontis. when he failed out of life sci he had to suck up and the rest is history
