Is it possible to transfer to Health Sciences after 1st year? I am assuming it is very competitive but does anyone know how this process work?

Yes, it is. Although the GPA alone does not matter as much as the separate application for Health Sciences does. My room-mate last year had a GPA of 11.5 and yet he could not make it to HS as his application wasn't strong enough. I have heard of people with GPAs ranging in 9s and 10s getting through.
