Transferring into Life Sciences
hi i am currently in my first year at western. I am in the biomed program and want to switch into Life Sciences for second year at mac. If i get transfer credits are they used to calculate my average for admission into the second year life science programs? I really don't know how this works so any information would be helpful thanks

Seems kinda rare to transfer from a specialized program to a general program like life sci.

It's not specialized first year, your not actually in biomed until second year. First year is just general science courses same as first year life science.

If i were to transfer i'd want to apply to a specific program in life science like honors molecular bio or honors bio.

Honours molecular bio or Honours bio doesn't fall under life science though. As for your original question. I had a roommate last year who transferred from UofT. I don't think they count =/. Only for credits though

So I'll get into life sciences for sure as long as i have the appropriate transfer credits? If my marks don't count what do they base my admission on? If i wanted to go into honors life science for second year won't i need a certain gpa? Thanks

My roommate who transferred into nursing from physical science had to apply with her highschool grades :s. I'm not sure, you should email the admissions office. Goodluck

wth i just got a reply from mcmaster saying it's really competitive and i need B+ to A marks in every course i am currently taking to be considered. I should be able to get above 80% in most of my courses except calculus which im probably going to get a low 70 in. Does this mean i won't have much of chance? From previous transfers i have contacted they said it was really easy....guess not this year

you definitely need somewhat decent marks. I know someone who was/still is in engineering at U of T and wasn't doing so great- she tried to transfer to mac bio but didn't get accepted so she had to stay in her program...so i wouldn't slack just in case

do you think a 78%-80% will be enough. I currently have some personal issues (homesick, depression) that make it really hard to study.

that should hopefully be enough- but keep in mind that the averages change every year
in terms of acceptance into certain specialized programs in bio, that should be good enough, i have heard that the highest GPA you need is an A- for one program, and the rest are B-B+ range
