Transferring to Mac
Hi, I'm not actually a Mac student but I am strongly considering transferring next September from U of T after I finish my first year. The Astrophysics specialization really caught my eye and it looks a lot better than the program I'm taking now.

I was accepted at Mac when I applied from high school, so I'm assuming it wouldn't be too much of a problem to switch over. I'm already taking Calculus, Physics, and Linear Algebra I, but I'm missing Chem and the Physics courses for the Mac program look quite a bit different than the one I'm taking. I'm not sure what I should do then: restart fresh as a first year (meaning I'd probably do well in Calculus and Linear Algebra since I've already taken them, which would boost my average), try to transfer over the credits I've already got if possible (though would the grade transfer over as well?), or do something else? I'm not sure how transfers work.

I'm not really turned off by the idea of starting fresh, even if it seems a bit of a waste of time, because my Calc course here is absolute murder (it's just proofs, proofs, proofs) and I'm not doing so hot in it, so I would definitely not mind going over it again and getting an actually good mark! Anyways, thanks in advance, and really hoping to be a part of Mac next year!

Astrophys rock!.. I'm in the Origins specialization but I've taken most of the courses you would take for astrophys.

One thing you might consider doing is taking the chem and physics courses in the summer. You can take 4 courses in the summer time and then still enter into second year. This way you won't need to repeat so many classes.

Oooh so the program is good then? I'm getting more and more convinced to switch.

I'm wary of doing so many courses during the summer, but that's definitely one of my top options. I guess I'll have to figure it out with my adviser or something. Thanks!

Edit: Also, I just realised that I'd need more than 4 courses. I'd need the two chem courses, the two physics courses, and then those SCIENCE 1A00 and SCIENCE 1B00 courses. Plus there's a couple of suggested electives I wouldn't have, either... I'm starting to think simply starting off at first year is the simplest option.

SCIENCE 1A00 is really easy.. you watch an online lecture on WHMIS and then take a quiz that you need 12/14 on. It takes 30 minutes tops.

Yeah, Science 1A00 and 1B00 are hardly courses. 1A00 you need for your chem labs (and possibly others..?), because they want to make sure you know your WHMIS, but the quiz and 'course' is really easy and short.

1B00 is "University Survival". You have to complete a bunch of online modules, which are all really easy and technically you can kind of BS your way through anyway. The course material includes career goals, time management and stuff like that.

Both of these courses have NO SCHEDULED CLASS TIME, which is why they are not worth any credits.

I think transferring into second year is better, since you apparently have quite a number of courses that you could transfer. You should take the chem's and physics in the summer, and that way you'd be all set!
