This is one of the things that pisses me off. A sick day is for in case you are sick, not to allow you an early retirement.

And it makes perfect sense that nobody should be able to accumulate sick days anywhere. I don't think tax payers should have to pay a city worker to sit around on his porch and drink beer.

Who gets to do that? That's ridiculous! The ability to "bank" your sick days and then possibly retire years early and "cash" those banked days for hundreds of thousands of dollars is one of the most unreasonable demands I've ever heard of.

Again, only union employees would ever demand something so ridiculous. It seems more and more that union employees think they have jobs for life (regardless of performance)... it makes me sick, especially with the unemployment the way it is right now.

I'd also like to add: I'm not sure what progress has been made, but unless the situation has changed without my knowledge, our TA's could be going on strike this year.

Dude I totally understand that but if they don't want people to accumulate them they should have never allowed it. They could have implemented some sort of rule that allows them to keep their sick days for a certain time period. I dont think its fair that they get early retirement either but my point is that if they made that mistake of letting people build them up, let those people keep it and discontinue it for the future.

I'm sure that this option has come up at the bargaining table, but we can't really say much about it since speculation is useless anyways.

That's actually a different one than I was referring to. I wasn't sure what the vote was (I thought they voted on Thursday?) so I hadn't mentioned this one.

The one I am thinking of does specifically refer to our educators, though I'm not sure at which level.

I don't think they ever had bankable sick days though; it's something they're arguing for this time. I think it's good to keep sick days around because some people do genuinely get sick or get injured. You should have to present some proof though that you do really need the sick days.

The way they want it now, they might as well just call it early retirement days; since you don't actually need to be sick. Just stupid...

No, they do have bankable sick days currently... the city wants them to give it up.
